Meet Mary Pat Haffey, MS, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor

I have retired as of 2015 and am no longer accepting new clients.

In my work with adults, children, and families I view psychotherapy as a calling as well as a profession, an art as well as a science, and an inherently spiritual endeavor for both therapist and client. A foundational belief of my practice is that all people hold healing and creative potential within themselves.

My goal is to create a respectful and encouraging environment in which clients can discover and maximize their strengths. I work as a collaborative partner to promote self-empowerment and life enrichment through increased awareness and skills development, helping clients of all ages work through difficult problems, relationship issues and life transitions.

Therapy for Children

I enjoy helping parents learn effective ways of responding to children who are experiencing challenges in their lives.
Most of my work with children and families falls into three broad categories:

  • Impulse Control Issues: ADHD, aggressive behaviors, oppositional/defiant behaviors, excessive tantruming, disruptive school behaviors, excessive peer conflicts and bullying.
  • Family Disruptions: divorce, blended families, parent/child conflicts, excessive sibling conflicts, catastrophic illness, and grief following death or other losses.
  • Post-Trauma Issues: the aftermath of sexual, physical or emotional abuse, witnessing violence, or experiencing catastrophic events such as accidents, fires, or natural disasters.

I also work with children experiencing excessive shyness or social phobia, depressive symptoms, anxiety, wetting or soiling of self, and selective mutism.

Therapy for Adults

Whether you are looking for brief solution-focused therapy, in depth work on long term issues, or something in between, I will begin by listening carefully to your concerns and helping you identify your strengths. Then, through an interactive process, we will discern the most effective way to help you move toward a more satisfying life. My work with adults falls into four broad categories:

  • Emotional Issues: addressing anxiety, depression, anger management, or stress management.
  • Relationship Concerns:  responding to issues with your family of origin, partner, children, or peers.
  • Life transitions: adjusting to mid-life issues, life-style changes, grief or significant losses.
  • Post Trauma Issues: healing from the effects of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, or the aftermath of catastrophic events such as violence, accidents, fires or natural disasters.

I also enjoy working with people who are seeking life enrichment through a deeper connection with themselves, others and their spiritual life.
